The company was founded in 1971 as Penta Hotels.
Penta (Greek for «five») was a joint venture between five airlines: Lufthansa, Swissair, Alitalia and British Airways (previously two airlines). The hotels were located in the main cities where the airlines flew from to offer accommodation to passengers and flight crew of partner airlines.
Today Penta is a network of 25 hotels located in Germany, Great Britain, France, Austria, Belgium, China, Hong Kong and Russia.
In 2007, Penta launched a new concept, Pentahotels.
The design of the updated network was created by the legendary Italian designer, eco-architecture star Matteo Thun, whose portfolio includes projects for Porsche, Hugo Boss, Coca-Cola, Nivea, more than 100 famous projects. It was Matteo who came up with the concept of «Pentalounge» as a center of attraction for hotel guests, combining a lounge bar, a cafe and a reception desk, where the cozy atmosphere of a homely living room is recreated.
In Moscow in the early 1990s, Pentahotels operated the Olympic Penta hotel on Prospekt Mira, the first hotel in Russia to operate according to European standards. In 2018, the brand again came to the capital with innovations: Pentahotel Moscow, Arbat occupied an empty niche of lifestyle hotels.
The Book building on Novy Arbat, where Pentahotel is located, is a historical heritage and due to the architecture resembling an open book, is called so. It was built in the 60s and completely renovated in 2019.
